2 days later, crews clear scene of large Willimantic fire

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — The massive fire which sparked at the Willimantic Waste Paper Co. is finally out on Tuesday.

The fire broke out on Sunday morning and prompted a multi-day response from several area fire departments.

Crews finally left the scene around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, nearly 48 hours after it began.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said they are not seeing impacts in the air or any “fishkill related issues.”

The cause of that fire is still under investigation.
