Interstate 395 back open in Norwich after jackknifed tractor trailer accident

NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH)– I-395 has reopened in both directions after a jackknifed tractor trailer truck closed most of the highway in Norwich on Tuesday morning.

According to Connecticut State Police, 29-year-old Rianna McMahon was driving her car southbound on Interstate 395, when she lost control on the snow-covered roadway around 8:50 a.m. After losing control, Troopers said McMahon’s car crossed the center median, went through a guard rail, and collided with a tractor-trailer truck travelling northbound.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., the Connecticut Department of Transportation reported that I-395 southbound was shut down between Exits 18 and 14 because of an accident involving a jackknifed tractor trailer truck.

The accident also closed part of I-395 northbound in Norwich between exits 14 and 18. By 12:30 p.m., State Police reported that all lanes had been reopened.

According to State Police, McMahon, and a 1-year-old child that was in her car, were taken to Backus Hospital. Troopers say McMahon sustained minor injuries. The child was not hurt.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 63-year-old Marino Florez, or Norwalk, was not injured in the crash.

Interstate 395 was southbound was closed for 3.5 hours.
