Red Cross holding blood donations in February to replenish supply

(WTNH) — This year’s severe winter weather and dangerous flu season is disrupting Red Cross blood donations.

According to the Red Cross, the organization is urging healthy donors of all blood types to donate blood to help maintain supply for those in need.

The Red Cross says that just in 2018 they had to cancel 600 blood drives due to bad weather. They say the cancellations resulted in over 17,500 uncollected blood and platelet donations.

The organization also added that the flu has also been a cause of low turnout at drives.

The Connecticut Red Cross says they have set up blood and platelet donations in the coming days to replenish the blood supply and ensure patients will continue to receive lifesaving treatments.

The organization says you can make an appointment to donate this winder by visiting redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
