NEWINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A donation from Stew Leonard’s will help more kids in Newington learn how to swim.

The Newington Parks and Recreation Department announced on Wednesday that it had been gifted $4,500 by the supermarket chain.

The department says the donation has allowed swim lesson costs for the spring season to drop from $40 to $10. The lessons will be taught by American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors.

Registration begins on March 6th at 9:00 a.m. for residents and on March 13th at 9:00 a.m. for non-residents. The lessons will be held on Monday and Wednesday nights from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Newington High School.
