White substance at federal building in Hartford prompts partial evacuation

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The discovery of a white substance led to a partial evacuation at a federal building in Hartford on Thursday afternoon.

According to officials, the substance was discovered on the first floor of the building on High Street.

Emergency crews evacuated the first floor of the building.

Officials say three people have been exposed to the substance and are being examined at the scene before being transferred to a hospital.

The Hartford Fire Department, Hartford Police Department’s bomb squad, Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the FBI are all at the scene investigating.

There has been no word on any injuries at this time.
