‘Jaws of life’ used after car crashes into pole in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — A car crashing into a utility pole closed a portion of a road in Westport for a few hours on Saturday morning.

According to Westport police, a car crashed into a pole on Wilton Road at Bumpy Lane around 10:30 a.m.

Units say the vehicle rolled over and came to a rest on its side. Fire crews extricated the sole occupant from the vehicle by using hydraulic rescue tools including the “jaws of life.”

The victim was treated on scene.

Wilton Road was closed between Bumpy Lane and the Wilton town line while the scene was cleared. It reopened around 1:00 p.m.

The cause of the crash is not known at this time.
