ALEXANDRIA, VA. (WTNH) — Poison Control Centers from around the country are reporting that individuals and health care providers are receiving unsolicited calls from a caller claiming to be the National Poison Help Hotline.
The American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) says the caller ID reads as the National Poison Help Hotline at 1-800-222-1222. However, these are not legitimate calls from Poison Control Centers.
Officials say calls have ranged from silence on one end of the phone to aggression and asking for money or personal information.

AAPCC says the caller has, in some instances, identified himself as “Justin” and reportedly has a Caribbean-sounding accent.
Officials remind people that Poison Control Centers will never ask for personal information and will only call individuals to follow up on medical issues.
You are asked to report any instances of these calls to Poison Control at the National Poison Help Hotline at 1-800-222-1222.
