BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) – Today we’re Cruisin’ Connecticut to the Webster Bank Arena, where the Harlem Globetrotters will razzle and dazzle, on the court, February 16th and 19th.
I caught up with Buckets Blakes:
I played professional basketball in other places before I became a Harlem Globetrotter, but one of my last stops was in Finland. And when I came back from Finland, one of the Harlem Globetrotter scouts gave me a call, sent me out a 10-day contract, signed me after six of those 10 days, and here I am in my 16th season.
Blakes explains the rich tradition of the team:
The Globetrotters have changed tremendously. This is our 92nd consecutive season, but we do take some of what our predecessors put out there on the basketball court. The players of this era, bigger, faster, stronger, the dunks are more dynamic. We set 17 Guinness World Records.
Team members are ambassadors of good will:
I love having a positive impact on kids. We love to bring kids out on the court, boys and girls, moms and dads, after every single game, 250 cities, 48 states and 10 Canadian provinces, we sign autographs.
