Valentine’s Day is supposed to be even more busy falling on Wednesday

HAMDEN, Conn.(WTNH)– Florists across the state are gearing up for what’s going to be a busy week with Valentine’s Day just a couple of days away.

They got an early delivery Monday morning at Garden House Floral. The owner’s Anita Marcati will be doing hundreds of arrangements over the next few days, with red roses being the most popular.

She says a common romantic gesture will be when the customer asks for a side of rose petals.

“We’ve definitely had gentlemen that will get a dozen roses and then they ask for flower petals. So, that they can create a path to wherever I guess they want their significant other to go,” she said.

Marcati describes it all in one word.

“Crazy. Crazy and fun. I mean Christmas is long, it’s several weeks. But Valentine’s Day is all one day,” said Marcati. “The phone starts ringing 48 hours before and then it’s all go.”

Of course she says all of their arrangements there will last a week. But to keep flowers fresh longer, make sure you change the water, give the flowers a good clip at the ends and keep them away from a heat source.
