PD: Man charged with assaulting, robbing elderly woman in Hamden

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A 56-year-old man was arrested Monday for allegedly assaulting an elderly woman and stealing her purse in Hamden last month.

Police say on January 22nd, at 6:30 p.m., officers responded to the parking lot of 2335 Dixwell Avenue on the report of a street robbery.

An investigation revealed that the suspect, later identified as Calvin Conley of New Haven, had approached the 68-year-old victim while she was walking to her vehicle. Conley then allegedly pushed the woman to the ground and pulled her purse from her grasp.

The woman was hurt, suffering from several abrasions, as well as injuries to her wrist and knee. Her cellular phone, credit cards and $400 in cash were also stolen.

According to police, Hamden officers, with the assistance of New Haven Police, arrested Conley at a store in New Haven.

Conley was charged with robbery, assault on an elderly victim and larceny. He was detained on a $25,000 bond and will appear in court on February 26th.

The incident remains under investigation.
