NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Tower One-Tower East is home to many vibrant seniors in New Haven. And this Valentine’s Day, some will be celebrating over 70 years of marriage, like Sidney and Marian Hubbelbank, and Alex and Julie Elkin. Both couples have been married 72 years of wedded bliss.

The Hubbelbank’s reflect on their wedding photo:

I see my gardenia’s right here and that was a happy day. Well, he’s lost all the hair. He was good-looking then, he’s still good-looking.

It’s funny because both of the couples met in sort of unconventional ways.

-We met at a Chinese restaurant. And we met at a roller skating rink. We had a wonderful organ player and we skated away all night.

And through good times and bad, they found a way to make it work.

We managed to go through a lot of arguments and every night we’d go to sleep. We don’t stay mad at each other.

So for these lovebirds at Tower One-Tower East, what’s the secret to standing the test of time?

– Today, the boys change their girlfriends like they change their socks everyday. They did in my day too, but if you care for the girl, you stick around.

So whether you’ve been together for 72 days or 72 years, a happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours.
