WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Police are searching for two people after a stolen car overturned in West Hartford early Friday morning.
Police say officers responded to the area of Whitman Avenue and Grennan Road on a report of suspects attempting to enter a vehicle. The suspects quickly left in a Jeep Cherokee, which was then spotted by officers traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Fern Street.
While officers did not pursue the fleeing vehicle, they did deploy a tire deflation device but the suspect drove around it.
Authorities say an officer then witnessed the driver eventually lose control and saw the vehicle rollover on on the corner of Fern Street and North Beacon Street. The car hit a fence, parked vehicle and several garbage cans.
Police say two of the occupants fled the scene on foot. The driver, identified as 21-year-old Andre Gaston, was taken into custody. He was transported to the St. Francis Hospital after complaining of back pain and numbness in his legs.
Officer’s later determined that the suspect vehicle was stolen out of Simsbury.
A Police K9 was called in to canvas the area for the other two suspects but they were not located. The incident remains under investigation.
