(WTNH) — Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal introduced bipartisan legislation called the “Reg Flag Measure” on Thursday.

It would allow law enforcement to prevent people who are dangerous to themselves or others from buying or having a gun.

The measure is modeled on the statute that already exists here in Connecticut.

“I has worked in Connecticut year after year since 1999 when it was first passed. Take away 50 to 100 guns from people who would do harm to themselves or others. They’re imminently dangerous and law enforcement can prevent them from having those guns and protect the public,” Sen. Blumenthal explained.

The senator says there are many gun measures proposed over the years, but very few have bipartisan support like this one.
